A Brief Introduction to the Master Program of Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics of Southwest University of Political Science and Law(SWUPL)
The Master Program of Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics at Southwest University of Political Science and Law (SWUPL) was authorized by the Ministry of Education, P. R. China in 2003, and began to recruit postgraduates in 2004. So far, more than 300 graduate students have been recruited for 16 sessions. SWUPL’s Master Program of ForeignLinguistics and Applied Linguistics boasts the following advantages: (1) Distinct disciplinary characteristics: The research orientations of our discipline depend on the advantageous position of SWUPL’s law discipline in the country, and the linguistic theory is used to guide the theoretical research and translation practice of legal language, forming a stable and sustainable research direction. (2) Strong research faculty: our faculty has a well-structured academic echelon in terms of professional title, educational background, age, and academic interest, etc. (3) Remarkable research achievements: our faculty members have outstanding scientific research achievements. We have published more than 100 academic papers in authoritative and core journals both at home and abroad, completed nearly 40 reports of various types for think tanks at all levels,and published more than 50 monographs and translations on legal language and legal translation. (4) Outstanding accomplishments in talent training: graduates from our school enjoy a high employment rate and good employment quality. Most of them are engaged in legal English teaching, editing, or legal translation in universities, foreign companies, foreign law firms, and publishing houses. Some graduate students have been admitted as Ph.D. candidates in fields like linguistics, translation, or international law in prestigious universities both home and abroad.
